Louis laments twin’s negative publicity

X factor 2009 judge Louis Walsh has once again expressed concern over the public perception of his most controversial charges, the terrible twins John and Edward.

Jedward, as they have been memorably nicknamed by the great British public, have constantly attracted negative publicity since they burst onto the X Factor 2009 scene.

The twins appear to revel in the glare of the media spotlight, however pocket sized Irish music mogul Louis feels that too much negative publicity can have a detrimental effect on the young brothers, who are only 17.

Speaking recently on The Paul O’Grady Show, Louis admitted that the twins’ parents were becoming “very worried” over the constant negative attention. He went on to slam fellow X Factor 2009 judge Simon Cowell after he had previously described the siblings as “vile little creatures.” The X Factor audience was next in Louis’ firing line as he questioned the booing of the twins that had been heard in earlier shows.

We will have to wait and see how much the constant negativity has affected the twins when they perform on the show this weekend. The smart money seems to be on the twins making it even further on the popular TV talent show, but the question remains can they go all the way and stun the nation?

Cowell courts fresh X Factor controversy

X factor 2009 judge Simon Cowell has found himself surrounded by fresh controversy this week amid allegations that he deliberately maneuvered one of his hopefuls into a losing position during the show last weekend.

34 year old Jamie Archer became the latest hopeful to be sent packing from the popular TV talent show, and the rejection has brought about the usual series of recriminations from both the singer himself and “sources” close to him.

The Mirror quoted some “friends” of the singer who believe Archer was “stitched up” by Cowell. Going into Saturday’s show Cowell was the only judge left with a full roster of hopefuls still in with a chance of winning.

The friends believe Cowell left their friend at the mercy of the public by giving him a “very average” Queen song to perform. Not only do they feel the choice of song was a hindrance, they also believe the singer should not have been allowed to perform alone, without the aid of “backing singers” and “pyrotechnics.”

They also questioned why Archer was given the dreaded first performance slot of the evening, and even queried the colour of clothes the singer was wearing during his performance.

The fresh controversy for Cowell comes on top of the uproar that followed his decision last week not to vote the twins John and Edward off the show. That led to a record number of complaints from outraged viewers.

Cheryl to sing live?

X factor judge Cheryl Cole is at the centre of fresh controversy as she gears up for this weekend’s show.

The 26 year old stunner is scheduled to appear on the show as both a judge and a performer. She will sing her new single “Fight for This Love” on the live results show on Sunday night. But will she be performing live?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Ms Cole, wife of England and Chelsea superstar Ashley Cole, originally intended to record her performance a couple of hours before the live version of the show.

This was met by howls of disapproval from fans of the TV talent show. They felt, with what would appear justifiable good reason, that it was somewhat unfair for a judge on the show to be allowed to record her performance, while the contestants on the show are forced to sing live.

It would seem that some kind of compromise has been reached and Cheryl will perform some of the song live. However the rest of the song will be mimed to a backing track.

Whether this is seen as acceptable by the fans of the show remains to be seen but a clearly nervous Cheryl will be hoping the controversy doesn’t overshadow the expected boost her performance will give to her debut solo single.

Dannii defends "offensive" comments

X factor judge Dannii Minougue has been caught up in controversy after the comments she made towards 2009 X factor favourite Danyl Johnson on Saturday’s show were labeled "offensive."

The Australian judge made reference to various tabloid reports questioning the talent show hopeful’s sexuality. Danyl, 27, had performed a cover version of the hit song 'And I Am Telling You" and changed the lyrics to make it seem as if he was singing to a woman rather than a man.

Many, including the singer himself and fellow judge Simon Cowell, appeared shocked as Ms Minogue said: "If we're to believe everything we read in the papers, there was no need to change the gender references." Cowell leapt to the defence of the contestant and challenged Dannii to repeat her statement, which she duly did. Initial post show reaction appeared to be firmly against the petite presenter and she was forced into making a statement on the Sunday show.

X factor producers, no doubt realizing that the situation could get out of hand, attempted to make light of the situation and both Cowell and Danyl later made statements playing down the significance of the comments. Danni’s superstar sister Kylie Minogue was even drawn into the controversy and issued a statement backing her sibling. She used her Twitter page to state that both Dannii and Danyl were "surprised" at the furore the comments had caused.

It never rains but it pours for poor Kandy girls

Kandy Rain became the first contestants to be voted of the 2009 series of X Factor on Sunday. The controversial all girl group and fellow female singer Rachel Adedeji finished in the bottom 2 of the public vote after the performances on Saturday night.

That meant the judges were tasked with sending one of the hopefuls home. However that task proved beyond them as the judges were split in their decisions as to who should be kicked off the show.

Louis Walsh was absent on Sunday following the tragic death of Irish singer Stephen Gately, however his vote was given in favour of the girls as he was acting as their mentor. Fellow male judge Simon Cowell cast his vote in favour of the group, expressing his desire to see them again. The 2 female judges however voted against the all girl group and even made disparaging remarks about their alleged "stripper" past.

The X factor judges were tied 2 – 2 so the decision was put back in the public’s hands. This proved to be bad news for Kandy Rain as they had in fact finished rock bottom of the public vote. Afterwards, the girls appeared defiant and expressed their satisfaction at having made it as far as they did on the TV talent show: "We couldn't have done any better really… we just really enjoyed it."

Louis gripes at having to work with the groups

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has apparently been speaking about his true feelings regarding this years X Factor contest, and his comments are sure to raise a few eyebrows amongst viewers, contestants and fellow judges. The Mirror yesterday (10/9/09) ran a story quoting the 57 year old music mogul bemoaning his appointment as the "groups" mentor.

The diminutive Irishman was heard to let slip "Yes I was peeved, but I wasn’t going to show it."On a more positive note the talent show judge has spent part of the week defending one of the groups, while talking up the chances of one of the other groups he has been saddled with.

Of controversial teenage twins John and Edward Grimes, Louis was quoted as saying "They are the big story… They’re all talking about John and Edward."

The X factor favourite went on to describe all girl group Miss Frank in glowing terms, describing them as "probably the best girl group we’ve ever had on the show."

X Factor house besieged by star struck school kids

The X Factor hopefuls were this week exposed to the price of fame as they were faced with mobs of school kids desperately trying to catch a glimpse of their new heroes.

The final 12 contestants on the popular UK TV talent show are all sharing a house as they prepare for this weekend’s live shows. The star stuck school kids have apparently been descending on the house in large numbers as soon as the school bell goes.

The number of school kids outside the house grew to such an extent that at one point the police were called in an attempt to control the celebrity seeking kids. The kids were photographed hanging over the edge of the security fence surrounding the house and trash was seen strewn across the street.

Apparently even the bad weather could not dampen the spirits of the young fans, some of whom had turned up dressed as their favourites from the show. Despite heavy rain one group of young girls appeared dressed as the group Kandy Rain.

Relief however was close at hand for the newfound celebrities, and indeed they could consider themselves "saved by the bell!!" The kids disappeared before midnight as they all had to get up early in the morning to attend school the following day.

Cowell to call in sick??

According to various media reports X Factor judge Simon Cowell has been fighting off the effects of the flu all week and may be so ill that he may not even make it to the live show this weekend.

The controversial judge has apparently been feeling the ill effects of the flu since last weekend, when he celebrated his 50th birthday by throwing a lavish party for a host of celebrity guests.

Tasked with mentoring the over 25’s group, Cowell was reported to have missed a number of rehearsals this week. However he did make it to at least one rehearsal and was pictured leaving the rehearsals studio yesterday afternoon (09/10/09) clutching some heavy duty flu remedies. Despite this, if the rumours are to be believed he could miss tonight’s show.

Cowell’s over 25’s group include the bookies favourite to win the popular TV talent show, Danyl Johnson.

Johnson, along with all the remaining "final 12" X Factor 2009 contestants this week had the honour of meeting UK pop superstar Robbie Williams. The former member of Take That is himself on the comeback trail and is scheduled to perform his new single on the live show this weekend.

Whitney to help whittle down remaining contestants

It is being widely reported that American superstar Whitney Houston has agreed to join the 2009 X Factor show. The mega popular diva will apparently jet into the UK and appear on the talent show on October 18th. She will assist the judges as a celebrity "mentor" before performing live on the show.

The 46 year old pop sensation has not performed in the UK in over 10 years and her appearance and performance on the show are bound to be keenly anticipated by both X Factor followers and Whitney’s own legion of UK fans.

Whitney, who divorced controversial American singer Bobby Brown in 2007, has never been far from the media spotlight despite her lack of releases or live performances in recent years. However she remains hugely popular and is no doubt hoping that her performance on X Factor will propel her back to the upper echelons of the UK charts.

Her new album, "I Look to You" is released the day after her scheduled X Factor TV appearance.

It will also be interesting to see how the superstar gets on with controversial X Factor judge Simon Cowell. Houston, however, is quoted stating her admiration for the music mogul as well as expressing her delight at joining the show: "It should be a fun night. I am a fan of Simon Cowell's and look forward to meeting him,"

Let’s Ol go to the circus!!

The Daily Star on Sunday yesterday (4/10/09) claimed that popular X factor contestant Olly Murs is a descendant of a well known circus act.

The Sunday paper has revealed that the 25 year old singer’s great – grandparents were both acrobats. They performed with the circus in the 1920’s and 30’s.

The family history was apparently divulged by Olly’s grandmother Maureen. The grandmother, whilst obviously delighted at the success of her grandson, revealed the performing tradition that runs in the family and traces it back to the parents of her husband, Olly’s grandfather.

She is quoted as saying: "My husband’s parents came to England from Latvia after the Second World War in 1948.

But before the war they were part of an internationally famous circus act and travelled all over the world performing.

My husband’s mother used to balance a pole carrying Edward on her mouth while he stood on top playing a guitar and performing other tricks.

By all accounts it was an amazing act. If Olly can pull in the crowds like them he will have done incredibly well.

It would be fantastic if he could become world-famous like them."

She went on to express her delight at Olly’s success so far and revealed that it takes repeated viewing before she can see his performances.

"I watch Olly every week but I have to record the show and watch it back later as I always start crying when I see him sing and miss it. It takes me about three attempts before I see it all in one go."

X Factor favourite compared to marmite

X factor judge Simon Cowell has surprisingly compared 2009 contestant Danyl Johnson to marmite!
The 27 year old schoolteacher has been installed by bookmakers as the early favourite to win the popular talent show, however pop music impresario Cowell feels he may divide the nation much in the same way that the savoury spread does.

Danyl Johnson

Danyl captivated Cowell at his initial audition when he performed a rousing rendition of The Beatles classic "With a Little Help from My Friends." Cowell described his cover of the song as the "best first audition I have ever seen".

Cowell was apparently less impressed with the singer’s performance at last week’s judge’s house stage, however Danyl did enough to secure his place in the final 12 and remains the bookmakers favourite to claim the top prize.

Cowell commented after the singer had covered Alicia Keys hit "Fallin": "A little bit over the top, but he is good."

Celebrity guest judge, and Cowell’s ex girlfriend, Sinnita, asked him "Do you think some people will love him, some people will hate him?"

Cowell replied: "Yeah, he's Marmite."

Liona lewis and Il Divo are thought to be amongst the performers at the country mansion knees up, as are a number of previous X Factor contestants and other acts managed by Simon.

The birthday bash is being organized by Sir Philip Green and his wife Lady Tina Green. The billionaire retailer is known to be a good friend of Simon’s, and is apparently in business discussions with him. Plans are said to be afoot aimed at creating a worldwide entertainment empire.

Is X Factor host under the spell of a mafia curse?

The Daily Star this week reported on a bizarre series of misfortunes that have befallen X Factor host Louis Walsh and speculated that they may be the consequence of a 2 year old "mafia curse."

louis walsh

The curse was apparently applied by disgruntled X Factor contestant Johnny Rocco who, having being described by Louis as a "pub singer," approached the judge and issued a threat in Italian. Fellow X Factor judge Simon Cowell was heard to retort "He’s just given you a death threat. That was a sign to the Mafia to kill you."

Louis has been in Italy this week filming the 6th series of the talent show and things seem to have gone far from smoothly. Firstly, his luggage disappeared, and then a planned boat trip had to be scrapped after a storm suddenly appeared on what had otherwise been a calm day.

According to the newspaper the X Factor judge also heard a "mysterious rattling at his door late at night, as if someone was trying to get in" and "a shadowy figure was apparently seen stalking him during a trip out of his villa".

Workers on the talent show were apparently blaming the misfortunes on the threats made 2 years ago, and the former contestant accused of issuing them appears unrepentant. He is quoted as saying "He bad-mouthed me and now he’s paid the price."

Cheryl Cole bemoans demands of being beautiful

Pop star and X Factor host Cheryl Cole has been talking to Sugar magazine about the constant demands of being a celebrity and having to remain "beautiful" at all times.

cheryl cole

Cheryl, 26, has been quoted as saying "From the moment I step outside my front door - even if it's just to go to the supermarket - I'm working.

"So looking good and not being caught out can be very consuming.

"Sometimes I can be so busy I'll totally forget to shave my armpits and will suddenly notice and think: `Oops!'"

Cheryl, 26, also states that she sometimes "struggles" with the demands of retaining a beautiful appearance and has even stopped reading tabloid reports of herself after previous criticism of her weight and appearance.

"I've spent many years crying myself to sleep over the crap people have written.
"I avoid it all now, as my tears won't stop them writing whatever they want."

Cheryl has this week been in Marrakech choosing the final 3 "boys" to perform on the popular talent show. She has been assisted by former Pop Idol hero Will Young who flew out to Morocco earlier in the week to assist her.

Simon’s ex accuses Danni of dirty tricks

Simon Cowell’s ex girlfriend Sinitta has lambasted X Factor judge Danni Minogue and accused her of "dirty tricks" by enlisting the help of her superstar sister Kylie.

kylie and danni

Eighties pop star Sinnita was quoted in the sun the other day (01/10/09) and questioned the legitimacy of Danni’s actions:

"Hasn't Dannii played dirty tricks by bringing Kylie on?

"Everyone thought there might be a chance that she would, but she never said a word until the last moment to any of the judges.

"Everyone is so in awe of Kylie, this will definitely work in her favour."

Danni and Kylie have spent the last week with the 6 remaining "girl" contestants, who will be whittled down to a final 3 this weekend.

Sinnita is also contributing to the show. She has been assisting her ex who has been put in charge of mentoring the "over 25" group.
